On May 23rd, 2018 ifib officially launched the digital district guide for Bremen Hemelingen. As part of the MobileAge project, ifib partners have been working together with local actors in elderly care and a large number of citizens in Hemelingen since Spring 2017 on the conception and implementation of a digital information service especially for older people.

This is now available at Bremen.online

In addition to information about facilities in the areas of culture, exercise, meetings and advice as well as beautiful places in the district, the guide informs above all about beautiful and historically interesting walks through the 5 different neighbourhoods of Hemelingen. The information was gathered by the participants during joint walks and edited and digitized in tablet workshops. The results are comprehensive and appealing multimedia descriptions of seven city district walks, which are intended to make other people - especially the elderly - want to (re)discover their city district.

Eva-Maria Ehlers, head of the Bürgerhaus Hemelingen, was invited to the official start of the district guide. About 20 people took part in the event. Dr. Juliane Jarke (ifib) presented the joint design process. Local office manager Jörn Hermening thanked the ifib researchers for their commitment to the district. Karin Schüdde, director of the meeting place of the Protestant Church in Hemelingen, pointed out the importance of the project as an impulse for the creation of better support structures for older people in dealing with new technologies and the Internet. And project participant Heidemarie Herder emphasised that projects like Mobile Age improve the image of the entire district and thus benefit a large number of citizens. Finally, Prof. Herbert Kubicek (ifib) and Henning Sklorz (Bremen.Online) presented the implementation on Bremen.online and explained how other districts could follow the example. There is also a press release from the University of Bremen about the event.

In order to make the walks accessible to people without digital devices, we have created a printed brochure of the walks. The brochure can be obtained from the community centre, the meeting place of the Protestant Church and the ifib.

A large number of local actors supported and cooperated in gathering information on the district guide: The project group consisting of Karin Schüdde from the meeting place of the Protestant church, Eva-Maria Ehlers from Bürgerhaus, Gaby Dönselmann from the MOBILE family centre, district manager Heike Schilling, Birgit Benke from district marketing, Sabine Bonjer from the foundation village Arberger Mühle (Bremer Heimstiftung), Monja Akkermann from ASB Bremen, the citizen of Hemelingen Günther Meyer and a core group of 5 other Hemelinger women and men as well as a multitude of other, especially older people from the district. In order to thank our supporters, we walked together a bit after the event and invited everyone for a snack in the community centre.
