AAL announces fifteen finalists for €50,000 prize

From a huge entry of close to 200 entries, fifteen finalists have been shortlisted for the AAL Smart Ageing Challenge prize, which is offering €50,000 for the best innovation that uses the Internet of Things to empower older adults to achieve the quality of life they aspire to, socially and independently.

European Regions bring a digital single market in active and healthy ageing

74 European regions have been recognised as Reference Sites of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing for their commitment to excellence in investing and scaling up innovative digital solutions for active and healthy ageing. The Reference Sites range from Oulu, Finland, to Heraklion-Crete, Greece and from Andalucia, Spain to Olomouc, Czech Republic. Together, they commit to investing more than €4 billion in digital innovation for active and healthy ageing, which is expected to benefit over 5 million people in the next 3 years.

Study characterizes older adults who may need help managing medications

As they get older, some seniors find it gets more difficult to keep track of their medications. However, despite this, not many studies have examined the characteristics of patients likely to experience such problems, nor how widespread it might be. Now, a new study seeks to address this gap in the research.

Blog ifib: "Second MobileAge meeting in Zaragoza, 5-6 July 2016"

The second project meeting of Mobile Age was held in the city of Zaragoza, Spain from 5th to 6th of July, 2016. The ifib is part of an international consortium with partners in Great Britain, Belgium, Norway, Spain, Greece and Germany. Through the connection of open data, mobile technologies and public services Mobile Age aims to improve the public participation of senior citizens across Europe and facilitate their independent living. The objective is on one hand to collaboratively develop mobile applications with and for senior citizens and on the other hand to test and implement methods for the involvement of elderly people in the development of public online services. The city of Zaragoza is besides Bremen (DE), South Lakeland (UK) and Central Macedonia (GR) one of the field sites where Mobile Age is carried out. The local government of Zaragoza already provides innovative projects for the participation of (senior) citizens.
