IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.
On Tuesday, 5 December 2017 in Brussels, IEEE is hosting a major European Summit - Technology for Health: Transforming Healthcare and Wellbeing.
Advances in connected technology, both in the area of consumer electronics as well as in biomedical engineering, have provided novel and challenging innovations in the delivery of healthcare. Among these, technologies such as smart and bio-sensing wearables or implantables are already transforming the healthcare field, contributing to advancing personalised healthcare and shifting the focus from managing illness to maintaining wellbeing.
At the Summit, three panel discussions will approach the area of technology-enabled healthcare from different perspectives, focusing on:
- The technological advances and the transformative role they play;
- The challenges around the resulting data deluge and how to protect and manage personal data;
- The need for a paradigm shift in how health and wellbeing is (self) managed at the human level to accommodate and derive benefits from these technological changes.
- In addition, two high-level keynote speakers will deliver addresses that capture the key issues at stake in the current debate about innovation in technology-enabled healthcare, from both the policymaker and industry perspective.
The Summit will provide a policy platform for discussion on the opportunities and challenges presented by technological advances in healthcare and wellbeing, and will stimulate debate on how best to overcome the challenges while fully leveraging the opportunities.
